There is exciting news to convey as we embark on week 3 of the Bridport Walking Track building experience. Team leaders Nick and Tim
report that 78 metres of base/top gravel has now been laid, and is ready for final compacting. Another 41 metres of base gravel is also ready for a top layer dressing.
The gravel, transported to the site by local contractors, has been obtained from special ‘track grade quarries’ in the area.
Approximately 119 metres of track now weaves (with minimal impact) a path through a flourishing dry sclerophyll forest at the Maxwell St end of the Bridport Walking Track experience.
The second team of 10 trainees begins work on track construction this week where they will find track prepared for graveling and their finishing touches. They will proceed with the skills of track carving, cultivating and grooming as their ‘hands-on’ training is consolidated .
The enthusiasm of the ‘handpicked’ trainees is infectious along with their pride in showing their finely honed track building achievements to the Program Manager, and other guests when they arrived on the site today.
